

Takinogawa Long Burdock Root (Heirloom 120 Days)
The roots do take a long time to develop but eventually grow to a length in excess of a foot. The flavor is delicious – sort of bittersweet. Burdock is also thought to have medicinal properties. Burdock needs to grow in rich, well-drained, deep loose soil for large long roots.

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 65-75ºF
Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2” deep, soaking seeds overnight aids in the germination
Sowing Outdoors: Direct sow in spring when the soil temperature reaches 65ºF. Sow 3-4" apart.

Harvest: Fall into spring. Gently dig deep around the roots. Young roots, leaves, and stalks can be eaten raw or cooked. Mature older roots are cooked.
