Silver Spring Allium has a shimmering aura in the spring garden. This rare variety was discovered in the late 1990’s. Clusters of star-shaped ivory florets have a star-burst shaped raspberry center, forming rounded domes on tall stems and having a pleasant, sweet fragrance.

PLANTING GUIDE 

Allium basalticum

Perennial, Zones 4-7

Bulb Planting Depth: 3-4”

Height: 24-36”

Spacing:  4 bulbs per square foot, 4-6" apart

Light Needs: Full sun

Soil Needs:  Average to Fertile, well-drained

Bloom Time:  Late spring-early summer

Uses:  Flower beds, naturalizing, borders, fresh or dried flower arrangements, attracts pollinators and butterflies, deer resistant, drought tolerant 

Care:  Amend soil with compost before planting bulbs. Feed with a granular flower bulb fertilizer on the surface at planting time and/or in the spring when the leaves emerge. Leaves wither and die as they bloom. It will produce small bulbs, “offsets” that can be divided from the main bulb and transplanted after a few growing seasons.
