Double Dynasty Mix Dianthus

One of the prettiest dianthuses we have grown and an adorable cut flower. Fully double flowers in shades of pink, red and white. Well-branched, upright, and strong-stemmed, these plants are excellent in the landscape all season long. Here in Maine, we grow this as an annual but it is a perennial to zone 6.

Dianthus barbatus interspecific

Germination: 7-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 65-75ºF

Seed Planting Depth: Sow on surface and lightly cover seeds

Starting Indoors: Start indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Provide 65-75ºF soil temperature. Transplant after the last frost, 12-15" apart. 

Sowing Outdoors: Direct sowing is not recommended for flowers in the first season.

Light Needs:  Full sun

Soil Needs: Loose, rich, well-drained

Uses:  Flower beds, containers, cut flowers, attracts pollinators

Care: Water seedlings regularly until established. Amend soil with compost before transplanting. Harvest flowers often for bouquets or deadhead for continuous blooms. When grown in containers dianthus needs to be fertilized and watered regularly. This will keep the plants blooming all season long. When growing dianthus in the ground amend the soil with compost before planting.  Apply a liquid fertilizer every 3-4 weeks or use a time-release fertilizer at planting time.
