Ivory Towers Joe Pye Weed

White blooming version of Joe Pye, also known as Queen of the meadow, first introduced in 2010. Flowers are much fluffier and cloud-like than the native type.  Flowers the first season and blooms toward the late summer each year after. Pollinators adored this tall and proud plant.

PLANTING

Eutrochium fistulosum

Perennial, zones 4-8

Germination: 30-90 days, irregularly over this time, cold treating 3-4 weeks aids germination

Seed Planting Depth: Sow on the surface and lightly cover

Starting Indoors:  Start indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Provide 55-60ºF soil temperature. Transplant into garden after the last frost, 36-48" apart. 

Outside Sowing: Fall or sow into trays/pots in the winter and place outside until germination in the spring.  

Growth Habit: Upright and columnar

Height and Width: 4-6 feet x 3-4 feet

Spacing: 3-4 feet apart

Light Needs:  Full sun to part sun

Soil Needs:  Average to rich, clay, likes wet, moist space but will grow in average soil

Approximate days to flower from seed: If sown early it blooms the first season. Mid to late summer every year after.

Uses: Native landscaping, backdrop in flower beds, wildflower and cottage gardens, attracts butterflies and beneficials

Care: Easy, mulch plants if grown in dry soil. Cut back in the fall.
